Women in Guitar History Blog
For almost two decades, Candice Mowbray has researched, lectured, and written about the great contributions of women to the guitar. In an effort to share her work as a resource to the broader public, she began writing essays about historical women guitarists and composers and providing lengthy lists of resources, recordings, and compositions as well as playlists. While this effort does not represent all of Dr. Mowbray's research, it is a starting point for sharing. Using blogging software, the essays are published at the link below and updated periodically.
Liner Notes
Candice Mowbray contributed years of scholarly research and wrote extensive liner notes for Legado, a recording project by Berta Rojas, one of the world's foremost artists of the classical guitar. The album celebrates the legacies of Ida Presti and Maria Luisa Anido, and won two Latin Grammy Awards: Best Classical Album and Best Classical Contemporary Composition for the work entitled “Anido’s Portrait” written for the album by Sergio Assad. Visit Berta Rojas' website and scroll to download the CD liner notes.
Anido's Portrait, Sheet Music by Sergio Assad
Composed by Sergio Assad and commissioned for Berta Rojas' album Legado, Anido's Portrait pays homage to one of history's great guitarists, Maria Luisa Anido. Candice Mowbray provided insights about Anido's life and career and was invited to contribute to the program notes for the score published by D'OZ.
